I have worked as a Counsellor since 1995 and as a School Counsellor since 1996. I trained initially as a Humanistic Counsellor and then as a Creative Arts Therapist and a Play Therapist to increase my skills when working with children.
Most of us have areas of our lives that we are happy with and also some areas that are not working as well as we would like. By spending time with a supportive specially trained non-involved person you can benefit from the opportunity of exploring such areas in a safe confidential environment free from criticism or judgement. Such exploration can then lead to greater clarity and enable changes to be made or facilitate greater acceptance when change is not possible or beneficial.
My preferred way of workiing is person-centred and I also offer a range of art form therapies to aid expression but only if the adult or young person is comfortable with such an approach. One of the talking therapies that I find particularly exciting is Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT but once again only if the client is willing.
According to EFT theory the cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body's energy system. Negative thoughts about our experience and ourselves can disrupt the energy system. EFT acts like a kind of psychological acupuncture without the needles. It involves focussing on the emotion while tapping on specific points on the meridians to release negative emotions. The memory of the event remains, but the emotional charge evaporates.
EFT can be especially effective with panic attacks, anxiety, stress, depression, addictive behaviours, weight control, PTSD, performance anxieties and pain control.
Supervision
I also offer supervision for other counsellors and play therapists on an individual basis or in small groups.
My aim as a Supervisor is to provide a supportive space where you as a Counsellor (trainee or qualified) or Play Therapist can explore and reflect on your way of being with your clients.
We would work together to build a relationship of mutual respect and exploration so that you feel confident and able to discuss all aspects of the counselling/client relationship.
I offer the traditional talking methods of supervision as well as creative approaches for those supervisees who are comfortable with exploring their creative side.
Sessions are usually for one hour and my fees are £40 per session.
